Princess Emeriel shears her hair and stains her skin to enter a hostile barbarian empire as a male laborer, determined to shelter her ailing sister from royal slaughter. She conceals a legendary siren lineage whose acoustic enchantments can pacify monsters or level cities. When Sovereign Daemonikai falls into a violent trance that slays his own guard, Emeriel steps forward, whispering harmonies that break his murderous delirium.
Fascinated by the humble youth who commands his feral soul, the monarch installs Emeriel as his constant shadow. While malicious court rivals lay lethal schemes to uncover her hidden gender, Emeriel must guard her vocal magic and resist the sovereign's darkening obsession.
